Let's Go Racing

Welcome to Let’s Go Racing, the racing travel center of the Louisville Thoroughbred Club!

Our aim is to provide distinctive, exciting, friendly and value based Thoroughbred racing travel opportunities for people who enjoy and love Thoroughbreds and Thoroughbred racing. Our travel adventures are customized to blend the excitement, color, pageantry, and history of racing with the unique local culture and stunning beauty of racing landscapes throughout the world.

Our Racing Excursions are scheduled based on interest so please tell us about the trips, destinations, and racing events that interest you most. Send an email to info@thoroughbredclub.org to let us know about your interests.

Some of our most popular Racing Excursions are described below:

Saratoga - One of our most popular racing destinations, Saratoga was established in 1863, and is the oldest existing racetrack in America. Today, it stands essentially unchanged with its tradition preserved and historic racing ambiance protected. The grandstand itself though modernized over the years is the original.

For many in the U.S., Saratoga is the mecca of Thoroughbred racing. The community is filled with racing history, cultural arts, fine dining, parties, and beautiful countryside that make for a racing experience filled with passion, romance and beauty. Saratoga opens in late July for a six-week meet. The Travers Stakes headlines the dozen-plus Graded Saratoga races.

Before the frenzy of racing and the roar of crowds, Saratoga is a tranquil and beautiful setting as the rising sun makes jagged shadows on the ground and the mist rises on the cool Saratoga mornings. On the backstretch, jockey agents, owners, trainers and others mill about sipping coffee and discussing business. On the front side fans watch the horses exercise and train from 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. Some enjoy a glorious buffet breakfast by the finish line on the porch. Others bring their picnic baskets and sit up in the best Clubhouse box seats, and still others roam about enjoying coffee, donuts, and muffins.

Spending the morning at Saratoga is an exhilarating and spiritual experience. Everyone there, perhaps a 1000 people each morning comes to the track because they love the sport and the beauty of the powerful thoroughbreds. You can get right up on the rail to hear the breathing and feel the power of these mighty athletes. And the air is filled with a buzz of anticipation as the trainers, Zito, Mott, Pletcher and others join you to watch their horses enjoy their work. When you’re down on the rail you never know when one of the big horses will walk right by you. Saratoga is an awesome experience, one that every Thoroughbred lover should experience.

Del Mar - Where the turf meets the surf - When Del Mar opened in 1937, Bing Crosby had a vision for what the track would become and he was at the gate to personally greet the fans. Bing’s vision has emerged into one of the great racing centers and race meets in the country. Del Mar is California’s answer to New York’s Saratoga and in its own way it’s just as glamorous and beautiful.

Del Mar is up there with Yosemite, Niagara Falls, Yellowstone, Jill Byrne and fall foliage in New England – if you're into viewing beautiful things. The setting is stunning and the atmosphere a mixture of nostalgia and Hollywood and beach and sunshine. And the racing is as good as it gets. In 1938, the great match race between the legendary Seabiscuit and Ligaroti was held at Del Mar and big races just kept getting added during the years, headlined today by the $1,000,000 Pacific Classic Gl.

Racing fans may disagree on which horse will be a winner but there’s no disagreement that the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and the sights of San Diego will make you croon just like Bing.

Join us to experience the rich history; warm hospitality; delicious traditional Irish fare; brilliant music; beautiful landscapes and the drama and excitement of Irish Thoroughbred racing.

Whether enjoying a morning breakfast at a B&B; downing a jar or two in a pub; experiencing one of the great Irish country festivals; touring the dramatic castles, churches and historic ruins; viewing the breathtaking seaside, mountains and landscape; dancing in the nightlife of Dublin or enjoying the romance and thrills of Irish Thoroughbred racing--your Irish Racing Travel Adventure is a time that will be treasured forever.

England - Newmarket

There is no place like Newmarket - it is the ancestral home of racing, where the racehorse reigns supreme and the Sport of Kings belongs to all. Newmarket owes its heritage to the monarchy, who established it as the official headquarters of racing over 300 years ago. The first race run under any form of written rules: The Town Plate, was founded by Charles II at Newmarket in 1664 and was the forerunner of racing as we know it today.

Of the UK's 59 racecourses Newmarket is unique in providing not one but two complete and distinct racecourses in the same town. The July festival features three days of high class racing with an irresistible garden party atmosphere, making for a fantastic social occasion. The July Festival opens with the most glamorous of Newmarket's summer race days, Ladies Day. It is without a doubt the most stylish day of the festival. On the Thursday the July Course teams up with Classic FM for a special days racing followed by a fantastic open-air concert. Friday presents the Darley July Cup, which is the number one sprint race in Europe. Come along on the final day of the festival to witness the fastest thoroughbreds fighting for the Champion Stakes Crown. The whole festival is a fantastic occasion.
